MARINE BIOLOGIST

MARINE BIOLOGIST

As a marine biologist , you are concerned with everything to do with life in water . You study the origin , structure , functions and behaviour of living organisms , their relationships with each other , and how they are affected by environment factors . These studies will go towards conservation efforts .

Tasks include estimating and analysing populations of marine organisms and observing the structure of these communities . You carry out environment impact assessments to determine effects of man's activities , like development , on certain areas . You develop programmes to monitor environmental pollution or to encourage sustainable aquaculture development .

You also provide information and recommendations for the development of marine conservation and harvesting policies and provide research training for students and staff .

Work is based both in the laboratory and at sea or at shore-based field stations . Fieldwork includes working on fishing vessels and scuba diving .

What qualifications/skills do I need ?

You need a basic science (biology) degree and a postgraduate degree specialising in marine biology . Some universities also offer undergraduate degrees in marine biology but a postgraduate degree is still often necessary in most cases .

CAREER IN LIFE SCIENCE

BIOCHEMIST

As a biochemist , you study the chemistry of living organisms in order to understand basic biological processes in animals , plants and microbes . Why? To increase scientific knowledge and develop ways to apply the knowledge in areas such as medicine , veterinary science , agriculture, environmental science and manufacturing . It's a field of study that provides a basis for all the life sciences.

Besides studying chemical processes that occur within individual cells and processes , such as digestion and growth , you undertake detailed chemical analysis and prepare or supervise preparation of scientific reports and papers for journals based on your studies.

You can specialise as a clinical biochemist working in hospital laboratories studying chemical compositions of tissues and body fluids to assist the study , diagnosis and treatment of diseases ; industrial biochemist working in analytical and research work , such as checking purity of food and beverages ; or research biochemist working in universities , biotechnology companies and agricultural , medical and veterinary institutes studying things like metabolism , growth and reproduction of fungi , bacteria , plants and animals .

What qualifications/skills do I need ?

You need a degree in biochemistry or medical biochemistry . Postgraduate qualification is advantageous if you want to specialise in a specific area .

DESKTOP PICKING

To start off, list down your budget and performance requirements. And be happy because the price of desktops has gone dowm to a more affordable level.
If you concerned about technical support and other post-purchase issues, you can look for a branded desktop PC.If not, just opt for a clones computer. However, there are some vendors who provide the services as the branded PCs vendor provide.
It's quite confusing when you come to processing power. The gigahertz(GHz) speed is no longer the indicator for performance. This is because per Intel's Duo Core 2 processors, you get a four-in-one processor, which gives you great gains in system performance per Wattage.Which means that though the gigahertz clock-speed might seem lesser than an older Pentium 4 3.0GHz processor,it the Duo Core 2 will actually outperform the Pentium 4 processor and with better energy efficiency too.Similarly,so would AMD Athlon's 62x2 alternative offering.
The general rule with random access memory(RAM),no matter what the type,is toget as much of it as you can.Entry-level configuration starts with 512 megabytes(MB).A memory bottleneck could easily disrupt your enjoyment. In any case, refer to your software and application requirements.
A graphics card should at least have 256MB of double data rate(DDR) memory. However, this can be insufficient to render high quality graphics in most cases. The actual minimum you should get ,if you can afford it would be 512MB of video memory.
Storage is important ecspecially if you deal with a lot of digital contents and files such as animation and music.Try to get at least 80GB and think of 160GB if you are hardcore computng applications and graphic designing.
In addition, check out the available ports like the modem and local area network(LAN) ports should be built in.The standard desktop should have two to four universal serial bus(USB) ports.FireWire ports are rare.
There are two types of display screen:catode ray tube(CRT) and liquid crystal display(LCD).For extended usage,LCD screens are kinder to eyes and are sharper in definition. It is more common nowadays to have desktop systems paired with LCD monitors, which should be at minimum 15 inches.
You should check out the desktop's warranty as well. Some vendors provide on-site service in case anything goes wrong. This means people don't have to carry their desktop all the way to the service centre.

There are three people who are going to be sent to prison for three years, the jailer gives each of them a chance to make a request.
Prisoner A loves cigar,so he asked for three boxes of cigars.Prisoner B is a romantic person,he asked for a beautiful girl to spend time with him. However, the prisoner C asked for a telephone which enables him to connect with people outside the prison.
After three years, the person who rushed out is the prisoner .His mouth and nose are filled with cigars."Fire, give me fire!",he shouted. The poor man forgot to ask for fire.
Then, the Prisoner B slowly walked out.A cute baby is in his hands, with his beautiful pregnant wife whose hand was holding their eldest child's hand.
The last person who came out from the jail is the prisoner C,he is holding the jailer's hands and says,"These past three years,my business never stopped and eventually grow 200%.In order to thank you,I am going to give you a Rolls Royce."
This story is telling us what choice we chose today will actually determine what lives we are in future.
Our lives today are the products of what we have chosen three years ago.Our decision today will affect our lives in the next three years.
Therefore,we must make right decision through our experiences. You may ask how to make a right decision?By making mistakes.Life is challenging!Don't easily give up when you are down. You will grow when you are able to overcome obstacles.
POSSIBLE IS EVERYTHINGS.
